According to the website Parentdish, the most popular name for a girl for the decade beginning in 2000 was Emily. Research done by the website Baby Name Wizard found that the choice of the name Emily peaked in 2003. The leader for the decade in the boy's category was Jacob according to Parentdish. Baby Name Wizard agreed that the top boy's name was Jacob and they followed with Michael, Ethan, Joshua, and Daniel. As a couple of these names indicate, Biblical ones seem to hang tough decade after decade also.

The website BabyCenter.com saw things differently. Through the end of 2009, they claim that the most popular girl's name for the decade was Emma, followed by Emily. Madison, Isabella, and Ava were next in line. For boys, their research shows Aiden to the top, followed by Jacob. Ethan, Matthew, and Nicholas round out the top five.

The experts' projections for the coming decade take a small departure from these familiar names. The site Nameberry predicts Ava will get the top spot for the girls and the site Baby Name Wizard predicts; Lila. For baby boys, Nameberry likes Ethan, and Baby Name Wizard loves Miles.
